Doug Engelbart was an American engineer and  inventor. He created huge advancements in computers and ways to use them. He created the mouse and hyper text. He studied at Oregon State University, served in the Navy as a radar technician and got his PHD at the University of California. The mouse started out with the idea of making a moving pointer on a computer screen. He thought of perpendicular wheels that could fit in your hand and track small movements made. The first mouse was a huge block of wood with many different cords attaching to it. It rose from two block wheels, one turning from left to right and one tracking up and down. The first mouse started out looking like a brick with a button. The mouse has evolved into being touch pad, made into the computer. In 1973, Xerox Palo's Research center, paired the three button , trackball mouse with a small computer. Then in 1985, the mouse really started to progress more by making it a rubber ball spinning wheel to click. Many large name companies such as Xerox, Microsoft, Apple and Logitech, were rivals to make the latest and greatest computer including making the mouse easy and assessable to everyone.
